Still a relatively rare varietal in New Zealand, this Marlborough wine comes from a vineyard that was used as a camp for the Airforce in the Second World War. Translucent green/straw in the glass, with aromas of peach, apricot, lemon peel, apple, melon, white florals and wet stones. The palate shows some sweet fruit well bolstered with a zesty acidity, a little prickle of peppery phenolics and tannin. Well structured and quite dry with some herbal flavours of tarragon and sorrel, then settles into a waxy texture that has a hint of creme fraiche to it. Finishes long and pure – a delicious aperitif wine, or one for the lunch table. 92pts
