Penfolds unveils ‘Grange La Chapelle’

A longstanding friendship between two winemakers created an idea. That idea then became a trial. Eventually, the trial became a wine. South Australian winery Penfolds and Domaine de la Chapelle in France’s Rhône Valley have teamed up to release a groundbreaking blend of French Syrah and Australian Shiraz. One variety – reunited, reinterpreted, reassembled. Grange La Chapelle was created by Peter Gago, chief winemaker at Penfolds, and Caroline Frey, chief winemaker and vigneron of Domaine de la Chapelle.

The wine, from the 2021 vintage, was presented by Frey and Gago at a global launch event in Paris last week. Gago explained: “When things are real, all quickly becomes self-evident … This friendship created an idea, this idea became a trial, the trial became a wine. Who would have thought …” Caroline Frey added: “As the project progressed, I saw the elegance in Grange and the strength in La Chapelle.”

The wine is available via expressions of interest only. To be contacted with more information about this rare release, you should complete a form on the website – https://grangexlachapelle.com
