Château Clarke 2018

Château Clarke 2018

Named after the Irish family who bought the estate in 1771, the Château was purchased by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1973. A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, sealed under cork, it is easily available in New Zealand due to Edmond de Rothschild Heritage now having interests here, as owners of Akarua and Rimapere in New Zealand.

A crimson-garnet red colour in the glass. A classic Bordeaux style of bouquet, with cherry, plum, blackberry fruits, then mint, vanilla, hazelnut and graphite pencil all showing on the nose. The palate has charm and precision in equal parts. Fine tannin gives spine and shape, with the vibrant acidity in harmony with the fleshy succulence of the fruit. A smudge of oak toast adds spice and depth mid-palate, ending in a dry and well-rounded finale. 90pts
