An Australian Chardonnay – from the slopes of Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills. One of a few from the West Island that it pays to keep an eye on, and benchmark against the best of our local offerings. A varietally-succinct nose that shows peach, satsuma, pear, grapefruit, cashew nut and tarragon, with a hint of flinty reductivity. With a few years in bottle (some local stores have labelled it a ”Museum Release” lol) the edges have been smoothed out and it is in a peak drinking window. You glide through the palate on a rolling wave of acidity. Oak has sunk into the shadows but there is a sense of minerally grip and tannin before the silky texture rounds everything out. Very classy and composed, with a finish of great length. 94pts
