A wine from a block on the Estate ‘Elms’ vineyard in Bannockburn, Central Otago, at twenty years of age in the bottle. A deep ruby-garnet in the glass – not much in the colour to indicate bottle age. The bouquet is quite refined, elegant and dark, with black cherry, mulberry, damson and raspberry taking the lead, well-supported by floral notes of lavender and lilac, plus thyme, cardamom and mushroom swirling from the glass. The ripe fruit shines as fine oak, grippy tannin and bright acidity provide the structure in the palate. Pink peppercorn, bay leaf, star anise and capsicum lie in threads of musky, savoury interest. Well-balanced and with great carry into a finish of sumptuous length – this vintage will last for another few years yet, so no need to rush to drink if you have some cellared. 95pts
