From the renowned Te Muna Road Vineyard in Martinborough which is characterised by stony soils and cool, breezy conditions which allow for a long ripening period. The 2013 vintage benefited from an exceptionally warm and early growing season. From fruit which was 100% hand harvested with 10% whole bunch. The wine was matured in French oak barriques, 25% of which were new. Sealed under screwcap.
The hue is medium to deep garnet in the glass. Aromatically, descriptors of black cherry, brown mushrooms and earthy savoury come to mind. The tannins have melded with the fruit which has matured with a more savoury, umami, smoky character that is very attractive. Completely integrated, round and rich, yet despite its age there is plenty of acidity suggesting that while this is drinking very nicely at 13 years there are many years ahead – depending on the way you like your Pinot Noir. Time has certainly added depth and complexity to the wine and it represents great value for money if purchased at release price. 93pts
