A wine from Central Otago – under the label that if you asked someone would be best known for an excellent, and lavish/sizeable, hospitality destination on the outskirts of Arrowtown. (see my review from when it opened here – https://winefolio.co.nz/?p=10068). I have also reviewed some of the previous wines here on WineFolio. The new release samples arrived with a note from ‘The Ayrburn Team’ including Sophie Parker-Thomson as wine consultant.
A deep burgundy purple colour in the glass. Richly aromatic, with the succulence of black cherry, plum and blueberry fruits mixed with star anise and clove, then savoury/herbal notes of bayleaf tapenade and black pepper. Dry, elegant and medium-bodied into the palate. There is also a touch of richness here too, echoing the nose – silky, yet ample. Fine tannin, a sprinkling of oak and bright acidity. A lingering suggestion of spice carries into the finish, of good length. 93pts
