Clearview Estate ‘EBM’ Viognier 2014

Clearview Estate ‘EBM’ Viognier 2014

A white wine wine from Hawke’s Bay that was never released to the public, but one that I see, personally, as a precursor to the excellent Viognier in the Topsy Turvey range that I reviewed here > https://winefolio.co.nz/?p=11025)

A pale golden copper colour in the glass. Perfumed with apricot, nectarine, quince, apple pie, vanilla, nougat and jasmine floral notes. Viognier tends towards lower acidity, but, wedded to the spectrum of plush fruit here, there is sufficient acidity to give brightness and energy. A toasty oak signature adds depth. The texture in the palate is silky, balanced with a touch of phenolic rasp. Concentrated, detailed and well-made, it is succulent and feels slightly exotic. Not sure if I could pick the varietal without looking at the label, but it puts a smile on your dial – my No.1 rule is ‘is it delicious?’ It is. 94pts
