A Chardonnay from a well-known producer in Beechworth, Victoria (Australia) – the 2021 vintage received the first 100/100 score from The Wine Advocate for an Australian white table wine. A lime-gold colour in the glass. The perfume is intense and immediate, pulling back on its usual reductivity and struck match characters, to reveal a pure, rich flow of peach, grapefruit, ginger, lemon curd, baking spice and cashew nut. Full-bodied with toasty oak quite upfront, but it matches the style and intention and doesn’t feel out of place. The fruit swallows the oak anyway, and the palate is precise, plush and linear. Take your time, as texture, tannin, minerality and savoury notes all feature as you stroll through. The finish is dense, lengthy and well-rounded. 96pts
