A wine from Alexandra in Central Otago – a Double Gold at the NZIWS in 2023. A savoury style with mushroom, thyme, pepper and mocha sitting with dark cherry, cranberry and cassis notes on the nose. A little lift of garrigue and violets takes you to the palate. It has that jube quality where the fruit is crystalline and succulently juicy, but a little on the green spectrum. Tannin extraction is light and chalky and sits in the background. The core is a zesty acidity that pushes the fruit forward. It’s all in place, but with a delicate touch and ethereal – flitting across the palate. It will have its supporters, and rightly so – it is well-crafted and packed with character. 91pts
