A wine from Bordeaux that both Robert Parker Jnr and James Suckling gave a 100/100 score – opened by a friend for a great evening with food to match. An elegant, definitely french, nose of plum, cedar, tobacco, redcurrant, pot pourri, mint, cherry and liquorice, plus a savoury earthiness. That savoury aspect develops on the palate, with mushroom, lavender, peat and mocha notes overlaid on dark blue fruits. Concentrated and intense, each sip unwinds more complexity and depth, the elements in line to present themselves. Tannins are softy supple and the oak is attentive but relaxed and supportive. A little granite and mineral as the finish swoops in – lengthy and dry. Wow, a beauty – quite an experience. 97pts
