M. Chapoutier ‘…Ergo Sum’ Shiraz 2015

M. Chapoutier ‘…Ergo Sum’ Shiraz 2015

A collaboration project between Michel Chapoutier and Rick Kinzbrunner of Giaconda. This single-vineyard Shiraz is grown on the granite soils of Beechworth in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. A deep, inky ruby-black colour in the glass. The perfume hangs on an equally dark melange of plum, bramble, pepper, cherry and liquorice, with a smoky spiciness. Medium-full bodied, with a generous, dense core of charred oak, vibrant acidity and grippy tannin. Plenty of interest unfolds through the broad palate, with layers of savoury charcuterie, dried herb, cloves and cinnamon and incense notes. Honed and built for the long haul, with that supple, weighty structure and complexity; and even at eight years in the bottle, this remains just a pup – keep for another eight at least. 94pts
