A wine from the Willowlake vineyard in Gladysdale, Yarra Valley – one of a few that I found delightful from this vineyard and sub-region on my recent visit. A light lemon-green in the glass, perfumed with aromas of grapefruit, nectarine, preserved lemon, hay, chestnut and apple. Elegant, crisp and showing a lovely interplay of elements. A roundness to the palate develops, with richer notes of honey, fig and nougat curling out from those initial citrus-led aromas. The oak is just toasty enough to add a gentle seasoning, and the acidity delivers a drive to the back of the palate. Some light, creamy lees texture and flavours add to the dry, pithy finish. 94pts
