A single vineyard wine, from the Awatere Valley in Marlborough; and not only from the the excellent 2013 vintage – but now ten years resting in bottle. A deep burgundy red, just a little brick-red from age at the edges in the glass. The perfume also shows just a hint of age, with some peat, autumn leaves and cedar alongside kirsch, rose petal, date, plum, thyme and cassis. Dry, with fine tannins and a well-integrated balance to the palate. Fruit is still well presented, lifted by moderate acidity – plump and rounded. A plush texture envelops the back of the palate, smooth and glossy. 92pts
