From one of the pioneers of the Yarra Valley – a Bordeaux-influenced red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. A blushing claret colour in the glass, with a fine perfume of cassis, mulberry, damson, terracotta, dark chocolate, raspberry, nettle, green peppercorns and violets. Astutely balanced but with an underlying power and youthful vigour. The Cabernet Sauvignon sets the tone, with the Franc offering more forest-floor earthiness, and the Merlot fruit giving a medicinal note as well as flesh to the medium-bodied palate. Fresh, with a confident acidity and super-fine long, textural tannins. As perky as it is now, this shows every sign of potential for a long life in the cellar – very well-crafted and structured. 96pts
