A Heathcote wine, uncovered on my ‘Field Trip’ to Victoria – now made by Simon Osicka on the pioneering family label. A rich, dark purple-garnet in the glass. Perfumed with ripe boysenberry, blueberry, green peppercorn, cacao, plum, cedar and Campari with a lovely violet and lilac floral lift. The palate is vibrant and finely wrought – a tight core of long, sinewy tannin sets the tone, matched with a bright thread of acidity. Great drive through the palate. Honed and muscular, but with a swell of succulent plumpness of fruit that is generous and easy to like. A benchmark style – balanced, confident and well-crafted – never straying off line and with a swagger and staying power. Supple, lengthy finish. 95pts
