A Central Otago Chardonnay, using fruit from across the company’s Bannockburn vineyards. Pale gold in the glass, with a complex and energetic perfume. Leaning towards peach and apricot on the nose, with the citrus less defined than in past vintages. Also a beautiful floral note of orange blossom and elderflower. A backbone of zesty acidity leads the way, with a briney, mineral tang that allows the fruit to bloom and adds great drive through the generous palate. Some white pepper, tarragon and sorrel herbal notes, with just a little toasty oak showing through as well. Polished and densely packed – a few years of development ahead, but quite delicious now at five years age. 93pts
