Sorrell The Wrekin Pinot Noir 2021
A vibrant, magenta-purple colour in the glass. The aromatics have good pinot typicity – red cherry, plum and cassis, with green herbs, orange blossom and violet florals woven into the bright fruit. A core of silky tannin, a subtle seasoning of oak and pristine fruit purity is offset by excellent acidity. The acid really driving the palate, with that plump, succulent juice. A viscous texture, showing a little sour cream note and bags of resinous spice at the back of the palate. Well-rounded and elegant, with a lingering, dry finish. 92pts
Sorrell The Wrekin Chardonnay 2021
Bright, pale straw coloured, with a punchy perfume showing citrus to the fore, then almond, apple, white peach, oat biscuit, dried pineapple and chamomile. Very tight into the palate – quite restrained and tension-filled. A saline, mineral acidity adds to the sharpness, as the lemon-lime flavour persists, being quite piquant. There is good weight here, with just a sense of oak in the background, and the body does flesh out as the wine opens up. Some fruit sweetness builds, and the hint of oak becomes more pronounced, although remaining in that ‘Chablis’ style. A caramel note sneaks into the crisp, persistent finish. 93pts
