From the estate vineyards in Gladstone, Wairarapa. A dark ruby colour in the glass, with those signature savoury aromas of the region – earth, mushroom, meatiness, as well as much more lifted and brighter notes of strawberry, cherry and orange peel. Medium bodied, with a core that has elements of confident, toasty oak and a bright vibrato of acidity. Richly concentrated with a succulence to the varietal flavours of the fruit, but also that nice savoury counterbalance to it with mocha, tapenade, peat and minerality. Tannin is fine and chalky, underlining the excellent balance through the palate. Good length on the sweet, dense finish. 94pts
