Going back to explore an older vintage of this excellent Central Otago wine – from Wanaka. A vibrant lemon-straw yellow in the glass, with vibrant aromatics on the nose of white peach, lemon zest, baguette crumb, pear, chestnut and some richer sweeter notes of butterscotch, vanilla and candied ginger. Medium bodied and with a falling acidity – tending towards fleshy and plush now, Still plenty of weight, and the oak is toasty and rounded, framing the ripe tropical fruit – some pineapple and melon deeper into the palate. Some baking spice and a little savoury note of fennel adds interest as the texture kicks in – plump and rounded. A sweet, nutty finish of decent length. 92pts
