A Martinborough wine, from the Estate block on Huangarua Road – with identifiably local flavours – savoury, bloody and with heaps of spice. A dark burgundy in the glass, with a generous nose filled with cherry, raspberry, thyme, chorizo, blackcurrant, smoked mushroom and plum. An approachable and equally generous palate – elegant, textural and well-balanced. Not shy on the oak, but the tannin is fine and chalky, with a wave of racy acidity that carries the wine to a dry, spicy, persistent finish. 93pts
