One of a range of regional Pinot Noirs that Valli produce, this one from the Hall Road vineyard in Bannockburn. A deep ruby-garnet in the glass, with effusive plum, red cherry, wood smoke, cranberry and fragrant violet aromas. Refined and intense, tightly structured with a subtle power and energy. Delicately spiced and with a bloody, brooding core of ripe dark red fruits, but underlined with a sweeter, lighter character, like the first bite of a freshly baked peach Danish. Tannin is fine, integrated and the oak is sublime, toasty, understated and inviting. Towards the long, elegant finish there’s a savoury layer – black tea, crushed shell, mocha and peat.
