An organic wine from the Waipara Valley sub-region (of North Canterbury).
Dark crimson in the glass, and bright with cherry, plum, redcurrant and raspberry fruits. Aromatic, flush with rose petal and a musky earthiness also shown on the nose. Dry, medium-bodied with a crisp acidity and balanced, ripe tannins. Loving the use of oak here – restrained but underlying, inviting, and with a toasty smokiness that blends and builds beautifully with a spice and dried herb layer as the wine opens up. Pepper, stone and savoury elements also deliver as you go through. Good depth and a complex, well structured weight. 93pts.
