A riesling from Martinborough – a region best known for Pinot Noir, but which does produce very good whites, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay – and some producers you could easily argue that their white wines are their most successful?
A near-colourless, silvery green colour in the glass. Elegant aromas of lime, green apple, nashi pear, satsuma, lemon zest and a touch of exotic white florals like jasmine. A clean and bracing acidity leads the palate but there is a rapid rise of a softening texture and subtle spice that balances the crisp salinity. Flavours of ginger, green olive and even honey emerge as the palate remains dry and mouth-watering throughout, ending with a fresh and lingering finish. 90pts
