The 2004 vintage was characterised by early, and excellent, flowering and fruitset which was followed by cool conditions with an extended ripening season. A blend of approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. These components saw 12 months in 25% new French oak, were then blended and given another 6 months in barrel. Under cork in great condition. In the glass it has a colour profile of deep garnet with some transparency on the edge. Classic aged Cabernet aroma profile of red fruit, rose petal perfume along with old leather notes. Mature but very attractive. Supple tannins have melded with the fruit which still has fruit sweetness. Red cherry, raspberry with some savoury flavours along with dried herbs in the background. Still has nice acidity. Very attractive and something people who haven’t had a lot of aged Bordeaux blends before often say “wow what is that – I really like it”. 95pts
