From New Zealand’s most northerly winery – Karikari Estate Winery is situated on the beautiful Karikari Peninsula in Northland. Pinotage isn’t grown much in NZ, but finds a natural home in the warmth of Northland. A dark purple colour in the glass. Rich aromas that speak of variety – with a smoky ‘double espresso’ note, plus beef stock, cherry cola, blueberry and beetroot. Not your usual descriptors, indicating wine of great character and personality. Smooth tannins and zesty acidity, with a fair lick of toasty barrel spice from the oak. A ripeness and sweetness flood the finish, with good length. 92pts
