Another wine from the set that was opened recently for our “100 point Tasting” – this having received the maximum from Bob Campbell MW. From Block 5 of The Elms Vineyard in Bannockburn, Central Otago. A medium-depth ruby red in the glass, with a splash of brighter magenta to the rim. The perfume has strawberry compote, red cherry and plum, with black olive, nori and tobacco savouriness, and a lift of old rose petals on the nose. Blooming as it was served – the wine changing character over the course of the meal. First delicately elegant, then more flesh and body, and then a earthy minerality came to the fore. Quite polished, with fine, long tannins matched to a fresh, sleek acidity. It carries to a finish of sumptuous length and texture. Tremendous now, it could clearly be cellared for years too. 97pts
