Stonyridge Pilgrim 2019

This is actually a GSMV (Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache, Viognier) from Waiheke Island which enjoyed a strong Syrah vintage in 2019. Under cork. Bright, glossy, opaque ruby purple colour in the glass. Aromas centre around plum, with some bacon fat, along with perfumed notes of violets and chrysanthemum. Supple tannins give a lovely velvet mouth feel.  The palate is bursting with round, sweet black fruit with flavours of blackberry, boysenberry and plum. Acidity is round yet cuts through the sweetness and offers balance. Nothing sticks out and has integrated nicely (supported by a double decant). Drinking well now and expect it to continue to evolve nicely. Medium length finish. 93pts
