With fruit from the Gimblett Gravels that was hand harvested in early April at 21 brix (due to a pending weather event) saw relatively low potential alcohol levels. 1000 bottles produced – sealed under Diam.
Bright, glossy, medium purple with some transparency. Light but attractive perfume along with ‘red’ aromas of cherry and raspberry. Gossamer tannins reflect that fruit was 100% de-stemmed, but not crushed to limit extraction of tannins. Lovely fruit which has sweetness and elegance yet, at the same time, depth – showing that despite the low sugars, the phenolics were perfectly ripe at harvest. Touch of oak with the wine having spent 24-months in barrel. 40% of the blend was stored in new oak and the balance stored in 2 and 3 year-old barrels. Pretty, lovely fruit which is the hero and you could be forgiven for thinking this is a Burgundian Pinot Noir. 12% alcohol with a lacy acidity that is subtle but delivers a lingering finish. 94pts.
