From a “classic Waiheke Island vintage” typified by a warm, dry growing season with good ripening conditions that produced concentrated, structured reds. Reflecting this “The Point” in this vintage is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, which was fermented to 14.0% and aged 19 months in new and seasoned French oak. The wine is sealed under cork which was in impeccable condition.
In the glass it is medium ruby with some transparency on the edge but has a solid core and little sign of ageing. Complex cedar, graphite, cassis, redcurrant and pomegranate moving into secondary phase aromas which are very attractive. Fine tannins with a touch of dustiness. This is beautifully matured and more about mouthfeel and texture than having a specific flavour profile. Perfectly integrated, harmonious and has lifted acidity which suggests many years ahead. Very attractive and screams quality and has delivered on the vision, aspiration and focus on excellence that is the hallmark of this, sadly now lost, label. 96pts
