Oraterra Pinot Noir 2024

A wine from Martinborough – the second vintage I’ve tried from a label where Wilco Lam has settled after leaving Dry River. A deep burgundy-red colour in the glass. The bouquet is plush and ripe, showing plum, morello cherry, blood orange and boysenberry fruits, with a floral top note of musk rose petals. A calmer, elegant entry to the palate after that alluring, siren call of the perfume. The fine-grained tannin curls around the palate, with a crisp acidity carrying things forward. The oak is well-judged, offering breadth, holding hands with the light drag of tannin. Notes of both pepper and vanilla contrast and combine, before a softer, lingering finish. Drinking very well now, but hold and cellar to see the best of it. 95pts
