A Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough – this label makes a couple of expressions using fruit from the Holdaway Vineyard in the coastal sub-region of Dillons Point. A very pale, steel green colour in the glass. Perfumed with blackcurrant, grapefruit, elderflower, gooseberry, cut grass, lemon peel and capsicum. The palate has saline acidity, a lees-influenced pepper and green tea note, and a musky note of barrel ferment. Quite broad and textural at the back of the palate, but the fruit keeps going, merging with some savoury smoked sage and salted almond flavours, before a bone dry, salivating finish of good length. 94pts
