Esk Valley Botrytis Bunch Selection Reserve 1992

Made from Chenin Blanc (75%) and Chardonnay (25%), sealed under cork. A deep mahogany copper colour in the glass. Intense, sweet aromas rise, with nutmeg, walnut, peach, apricot, molasses, cardamom, marmalade and honeysuckle at first. There’s still a good balance of acidity to ripe fruit sweetness, with the noble rot adding a phenolic rasp of tar and bitters. A lovely silken texture through mid-palate – oily and coating. The finish is lip-smackingly drier and quite clean, with excellent length. A classic. 94pts
