From the excellent 2021 vintage, this wine comes from the Waiheke Island with a great reputation for this varietal. A very bright magenta-purple in the glass. The bouquet is inviting, leading with a floral note of violets and lavender, then plum, cherry, white pepper, caramel, almond and raspberry. The palate is medium-bodied, with flavours that echo the nose. Lead by a crisp acidity, there is also plenty of toasty oak adding richness. Tannin is soft, rounded and gentle. A nudge of savoury flavour shows in a black olive layer – that glossy fruit just given a light contrast which adds complexity. The finish brings those elements together in harmony, and shows good persistence. 92pts
