A white wine from Marlborough, in the style of a German Spätlese – which we would put at ‘medium/sweet’ in terms of sweetness. It has 83g/l of residual sugar, and is also low in alcohol – just 7.5%. A pale golden-green colour in the glass, with just a hint of coppery darkening due to the age of the wine. The perfume is quite delicate, with lime, orange peel, lychee, grapefruit, fresh ginger, honey and lemon blossom floral notes. No sign of botrytis on the palate – just pure, fresh fruit in that citrus spectrum. The body is full and plush but there is a lightness of touch and finesse even as a chalky texture enfolds the back of the palate. A clean, and, importantly, dry finish shows great length. 94pts
