A red blend, made of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, from a Hawke’s Bay label no longer in existence. A slightly opaque ruby-burgundy colour in the glass. A deep perfume, showing some secondary qualities of mushroom, leather and mulberry alongside the cassis, cherry, black pepper and dried herbs. The palate is broad, with a generous weight, lush fruit and enough acidity to give some drive. Tannin is fine, chalky and well-integrated, and there is still a good lick of toasty oak around the edges. The finish is sweet and lingering. 93pts
