A wine from Moutere in the Nelson region – the top-level wine of this label, and only made four times in the last 20 years. A translucent, pale straw colour in the glass. The nose is bold, with aromas of peach, fig, melon, baked apple pie, cashew nut, white pepper, lemon and vanilla. The palate is also voluptuous, with those concentrated and robust flavours growing, on a wave of juicy acidity. There is an elegant spine of oak and some pithy tannins add finesse, mouthfeel and textural interest. This stops the middle tumbling into cloying and keep the flavours the right side of flabby. A nougat brittle and nuttiness to the generous finish. 93pts
