A Chardonnay from Mendoza clone fruit in the Skeetfield vineyard in Dartmoor, Hawke’s Bay. An inviting bouquet, with just a hint of struck-match flintiness, then red apple, nectarine, beurre blanc, chamomile, cardamom and lemon blossom. Precisely balanced – plush, but with crisp, concentrated power. There’s an oatmeal, nougat note, and an obvious toast of oak. An energetic, slightly saline, line of acidity gives a dynamic line straight through the palate, direct and linear. Add in the texture that surrounds it all, adding harmony and this shows this Chardonnay-specialist producer in top form. A long and memorable finish. 95pts
