Obsidian Estate ‘Vitreous’ 2019

A red wine grown in Waiheke Island’s Onetangi Valley. A ‘Right Bank Bordeaux’ blend of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. A medium-density ruby colour in the glass. Aromas of damson, blackcurrant, redcurrant, thyme, pomegranate, mocha, vanilla and cedar emerge with a good swirl. A mixture of Old and New-World styles, with the crunch of juicy fruit wedded to savoury, secondary flavours underneath. A fine, dry tannin and enough toasty oak to give firm structure and hold. A classic example of a Waiheke style red that should be drinking very well for the next 5-10 years too. 93pts
