A Chardonnay from Marlborough, and this label’s single vineyard, reserve range. Very pale and bright lemon-green in the glass. The bouquet shows ripe fruit flavours of peach, golden apple and lemon, with a hazelnut, allspice, vanilla and smoked butter richness. Acidity needs to rein in that tropical lushness, and it does, with a crisp bite giving good energy and line through the palate. Texture follows, with a generosity that nods to the perfume and lets layers of spice, terracotta savouriness and herbs slide in and out as you go. A nice finish with a dry, pithy length. 93pts
