A Pinot Noir from Marlborough – the fruit coming from four organic vineyards – Quarters, Andahlane, Kennedys Road and the Huia home block. A deep burgundy purple in the glass. The bouquet is quite rich, with toasted spice overlaid on sweet red berries, cherry and black plums. Full-bodied and equally rich into the palate, it nevertheless has an agility and energy that keeps the flavours flowing. The core has a spine of bright acidity, spicy oak and silky tannin in perfect harmony, allowing the fruit freedom to shine. Throughout the journey from nose to finish, I find contrasting but compelling notes of green herbs, soy, rose petal and mocha that add complexity and blend well – there’s a lot going on. The finish is smooth, sweeter and has good length. 93pts
