A Pinot Noir from Burgundy, between Nuits Saint Georges and Vosne Romanee. A dense ruby colour in the glass. The vivid perfume is familiar, yet different from a New Zealand wine – cherry, raspberry, cassis, orange peel and blueberry, with an underlying earthiness to that fruit, and top notes of vanilla and lilac. Medium bodied, with a breeze of acid that floats through giving energy & attack to the palate. The ripe fruit coats the tongue, and savoury smoked meat and spice join the party. Tannin and toasty oak add structure to this young wine. At the dry finish there’s a little heat and more spice. 93pts
