A much-lauded Shiraz from the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, and an excellent vintage. A slightly opaque, dark ruby-purple colour in the glass. A fragrance of bramble, boysenberry, violet, blackcurrant, toasted spice, bay leaf and graphite. A mouth-filling generosity into the palate, with the spice accented by some warming oak. Acidity adds brightness and length to a fairly tight and compact structure. Fine tannin adds even more spine, with a solid grip. The power and gravitas needs to loosen a little before this big wine offers up its best – hold for another few years. 92pts
Just wondering how the Tinto Vinho Verde was 91 points and this 92. They are not even in the same league. THE brokenwood is share class and intensity… the Verde simple and light.
Read the review – it needed more time to come together. had great potential, but wasn’t fully integrated. Comparing scores on two wines is like apples vs lemons – two very different things designed to provide different sensations… it’s not as simple as you make out.
