From Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf – one of a few of this varietal that does very well on the island. A pale golden straw colour in the glass. The scent starts with crisp fruit notes of apricot, grapefruit, pear and lemon peel; then broadens into honeycomb, chestnut, acacia and weetbix. Good concentration, with a silken creaminess that coats the tastebuds. Acidity then cuts a line through that texture – adding brightness, length and direction. Subtle layers of crushed shell minerality, baking spice and pithy phenolics give more dimension and complexity. The finish is clean, dry and quite lengthy. 93pts
