A wine from the Talon vineyard in the Dillons Point sub-region in Marlborough’s Lower Wairau Valley. This area produced five of the top seven wines in our last Top 10 tasting of Sauvignon Blanc – so I think it is fair to say that the signature of wines from there, is something I tend to like!
Translucently pale with a silvery green colour in the glass. Richly aromatic with a crescendo of crisp apple, blackcurrant, gooseberry, grapefruit, passionfruit, bay leaf and lemon oil on the nose. There’s an immediate sense of pebbly beach, with iodine and salty acidity in the palate. The very clean bite of fruit is fresh and mouth-watering. Becoming broader and more generous towards the finish, with touches of tropical fruit developing, and a good persistence. 91pts
