A Sauvignon Blanc from the Marisco Waihopai River Vineyard in Marlborough, with several years in the bottle – showing that we make some very age-worthy examples of Sauvignon in NZ. A golden-green colour in the glass. Unmistakably Marlborough Sav on the nose, with a fragrance of gooseberry, asparagus, lemon oil, blackcurrant and nectarine. A touch of struck-match and toasted spices is also there. An interesting balance of zesty acid and generous richness on the palate. Oak plays a part, with a smoky warmth, but there’s a steely minerality that is quite firm and the body has some weight to it. Quite dry, especially on the finish that has super length. 91pts
