A Syrah from Waiheke Island, and the Cable Bay Estate’s 22 year old vines. A vitality and lift to the perfume, with expansive floral notes of violet, lilac and musk rose. There is plenty of ripe red fruit – plum, cherry, raspberry, and some wood smoke, pepper and cinnamon on the nose too. Medium bodied and agile into the palate. Certainly not heavy, with a bright acidity pepping up those darker, more generous elements, and it has excellent drive. Tannin is supple and fine, whilst the oak treatment is muted, with just a hint of vanilla and toast in the wings. Finishes with a smooth textural quality and good length. 92pts
