A red blend from Hawke’s Bay – using Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. An inkily dark crimson colour in the glass. Boysenberry, cassis, cherry and damson plum are dusted with pepper and spice on the nose. There’s plenty of savoury elements at play as you dive into the rich palate – truffle, coffee bean and peat. A juicy acidity sits over a spine of dusty tannin and smoky oak; suggesting that some time in the cellar will move this youngster onto something with even more depth and reward. The dry finish has good length. 92pts
