A Pinot Noir from the Te Muna sub-region of Wairarapa, on the outskirts of the Martinborough township. A dark ruby colour in the glass, with a very appealing perfume – black cherry, raspberry, red pepper, orange peel, salami and pine cone. At four years in bottle, this has a balance and harmony that is settled and ready for drinking now. A vibrant acidity gives lift and line through the palate where some firm tannin also sets to work. The oak is evident – it is a slightly ‘old school’ expression – with some vanilla and caramel notes. Dry, there is a subtle tang to the way the elements interact with each other – the ripe fruit shining throughout. A good representation of the regional style, and it has a decent length to the finish as well. 90pts
