Made from the oldest organically-farmed Syrah vines in the country – in the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke’s Bay. The names comes from speculation that the clone of Syrah they were using might be ‘Serine’. The provenance was never confirmed, but the name persisted. A bright garnet-ruby red in the glass, with a delightfully varietal perfume. A richness of damson, boysenberry and orange peel mixes with some savoury jolts of peat, smoked olives and cassis. The tannin is supple and forms a solid backbone, with the toasty oak adding depth and layering. Quite glossy at the long, lingering finish. 93pts
